Anxiety
Anxiety Treatment in Louisville, KY
Anxiety is useful in small amounts and exhausting in large ones. When it stops being proportional — when the worry runs on its own schedule, when your body stays braced all day, when you start arranging life around avoiding things — it is worth treating.
We see the full range here: generalized worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, health anxiety, and the anxiety that rides alongside depression or a medical diagnosis.

01What it can look like
Common signs of anxiety disorder
No one has all of these, and having several does not settle a diagnosis on its own. They are the pattern a clinician listens for.
- Worry that is hard to switch off, often about several things at once
- Restlessness or feeling permanently on edge
- Muscle tension, jaw clenching, headaches, or stomach trouble
- Racing heart, shortness of breath, or panic episodes that peak fast
- Trouble falling asleep because your mind will not stop
- Avoiding places, calls, driving, or social situations
- Difficulty concentrating; mind going blank
A panic attack can feel identical to a cardiac event. If you have new chest pain, pressure, or shortness of breath and you are unsure, treat it as a medical emergency and call 911.
This page is general education, not medical advice, and it cannot diagnose you. An evaluation with a clinician can.
02How we treat it
Treatment at our Louisville practice
Rule things in and out first
Thyroid problems, stimulant and caffeine load, sleep apnea, certain medications, and alcohol withdrawal can all imitate or amplify anxiety. A proper evaluation looks at these before assuming the answer is a prescription.
Therapy that targets the loop
Psychotherapy for anxiety is practical work: identifying the triggers, changing what you do in the moment, and gradually reversing the avoidance that has quietly shrunk your week. It gives you something you keep after treatment ends.
Medication when it earns its place
Several non-habit-forming medications treat anxiety well, and we start at low doses because anxious bodies are sensitive to change. We are deliberate about benzodiazepines and will discuss the trade-offs openly rather than defaulting to them.
Care that fits your schedule
Anxiety often makes leaving the house harder, which is exactly when appointments get cancelled. Secure telehealth visits are available for patients located in Kentucky.

Anxiety questions we hear often
Will I be put on a benzodiazepine?
Not automatically. They work quickly but carry tolerance and dependence risk, so they are used narrowly and with a clear plan. Most anxiety treatment here is built on therapy plus a non-habit-forming daily medication.
Can therapy alone treat anxiety?
Often, yes — particularly for panic and social anxiety. Many patients never need medication at all.
How soon can I be seen?
Request an appointment online or call (502) 454-8800. We will tell you the soonest available time and what your insurance is expected to cover before your first visit.
I have both anxiety and depression. Do I need two providers?
No. They travel together frequently and are treated as one picture by one team.
