Telehealth Visits with Our Louisville Team

Secure video appointments with the same clinicians you would see on Newburg Road. Useful for a lot of care — and honestly not right for all of it. Here is where the line sits.

Who is eligible

Telehealth is available to established and new patients who are physically located in Kentucky at the time of the appointment. This is a licensing requirement, not a preference. Our providers hold Kentucky licenses, which allow them to treat patients who are in Kentucky when the visit happens.

That matters most for our Southern Indiana patients: living in New Albany or Jeffersonville is fine, but a video visit from your living room there is not. Those appointments need to be in person in Louisville, or from a Kentucky location such as a Kentucky workplace.

What you need

  • A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone
  • A stable internet connection — video over cellular usually works fine
  • A private space where you can speak freely for the length of the visit; a parked car counts
  • Headphones, if privacy at home is difficult
  • Your pharmacy name and any current medication list nearby

Privacy

Visits run on a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are not recorded. Your clinician will confirm your location and your identity at the start of the visit, which is a standard part of telehealth, not an inconvenience we invented.

What works well remotely

And what still needs the office. We would rather tell you now than after you have booked.

Good fit for video

  • Medication follow-ups

Reviewing side effects, sleep, energy and dose adjustments works well by video once your prescriber knows you.

  • Individual therapy

Talk therapy translates to video better than most people expect, and consistency improves when the commute disappears.

  • Check-ins during a rough patch

A shorter, sooner appointment is often more useful than waiting weeks for an in-person slot.

Needs an in-office visit

  • TMS therapy

NeuroStar treatment is delivered by a device in our office, five days a week. There is no remote version.

  • Some first evaluations

Depending on what is going on, we may ask for the initial psychiatric evaluation to happen in person.

  • Anything needing a physical assessment

Vitals, in-office observation, or coordination with another treating physician.

How to start a telehealth visit

  • 1. Ask for it

Choose telehealth on the appointment request, or tell us on the phone at (502) 454-8800.

  • 2. Get set up

We confirm your benefits, send your forms, and email a secure link before the appointment.

  • 3. Join from Kentucky

Open the link a few minutes early, confirm your location, and your clinician joins on time.

You must be physically located in Kentucky

Our physicians and therapists are licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and state law requires that you be physically present in Kentucky at the time of your visit. We confirm your location at the start of every appointment. If you have moved out of state or will be traveling, tell us in advance so we can help you plan — a visit cannot go forward from another state.

A private space on both ends

We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform covered by a Business Associate Agreement, and we take your visit from a private, closed room. Please do the same: find a space where you will not be overheard, use headphones if others are nearby, and avoid taking the visit from a moving vehicle. Sessions are not recorded. If anyone else is present with you, tell your clinician at the start.

What you consent to

Before your first video visit you will sign a telehealth consent. It explains that telehealth is voluntary and you may switch to an in-office visit at any time; that some evaluations, lab work, and certain controlled-substance prescribing may require you to be seen in person; that technology can fail and we will call you if the connection drops; and how to reach us or emergency services between visits. Your telehealth records are part of your medical record and protected exactly like an in-office visit — see our Notice of Privacy Practices.

Telehealth is not for emergencies. If you are in danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988, or text HOME to 741741. We ask for your current address before each visit so emergency help can be sent if it is ever needed.

What happens next

  1. 1Request an appointment and note that you would prefer a video visit.
  2. 2We confirm eligibility, verify benefits, and send your link and forms.
  3. 3You join from anywhere in Kentucky — no waiting room, no drive.

Telehealth questions

Do I have to be in Kentucky for a telehealth visit?

Yes. Our clinicians are licensed in Kentucky, and you must be physically located in Kentucky at the time of the appointment. Being a Kentucky resident is not enough if you are travelling or across the river in Indiana that day.

What technology do I need?

A smartphone, tablet or computer with a working camera and microphone, and a reasonably stable internet connection. We send a link before the visit — there is no software to buy.

Can my whole course of care be virtual?

Often, yes, for therapy and for many medication follow-ups. Some situations still call for an in-person visit, and TMS therapy is always in-office.

What if my connection drops?

Your clinician will call you at the phone number on file and finish the visit by phone where that is clinically appropriate. Make sure your number is current before the appointment.

Is telehealth covered by insurance?

Most plans we accept cover telehealth, though the details vary. We verify your benefits before the visit and tell you your expected cost.
