PTSD
PTSD Treatment in Louisville, KY
PTSD is what happens when the nervous system keeps responding to something that is over. The event may be years behind you; the alertness, the sleep disruption, and the effort of avoiding reminders are still costing you something every day.
It responds to treatment. And you are not required to describe what happened in order to make an appointment.

01What it can look like
Common signs of post-traumatic stress disorder
No one has all of these, and having several does not settle a diagnosis on its own. They are the pattern a clinician listens for.
- Intrusive memories, flashbacks, or nightmares
- Startling easily; scanning rooms and exits
- Avoiding people, places, conversations, or news that bring it back
- Emotional numbness or distance from people you love
- Sleep that never fully lets go
- Irritability, anger, or a short fuse that is not like you
- Feeling permanently unsafe, or that something bad is about to happen
Veterans and service members can also reach the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and pressing 1, or texting 838255, at any hour.
This page is general education, not medical advice, and it cannot diagnose you. An evaluation with a clinician can.
02How we treat it
Treatment at our Louisville practice
Pacing set by you
Trauma-informed care means you control the pace and the detail. Early sessions focus on stabilization — sleep, grounding, safety — before any work that goes toward the event itself. Nothing is pried out of you on a schedule.
Psychotherapy as the core treatment
Talking therapy with a licensed clinician is the primary treatment for PTSD. The goal is not to relive the event but to reduce the grip it still has on ordinary days.
Medication for the symptoms that block progress
Medication can reduce hyperarousal, nightmares, and the depression and anxiety that often accompany PTSD, which usually makes therapy more workable. It is used to support the work, not replace it.
Veterans, service members, and families
We accept TRICARE alongside Medicare and most commercial plans. Service-connected trauma, military sexual trauma, and civilian trauma are all treated here without you having to justify the category.

PTSD questions we hear often
Do I have to talk about the trauma in the first session?
No. The first visit is about what your days look like now and what you want to change. Detail comes later, if and when you decide.
Can PTSD show up years after the event?
Yes. Delayed onset is well documented, and symptoms can also resurface after a loss, an anniversary, a birth, or a new stressor.
Do you accept TRICARE?
Yes. TRICARE, Medicare, and most commercial plans are accepted. We verify your benefits and tell you the expected cost before your first visit.
Can PTSD treatment be done by video?
Therapy and medication follow-ups can, for patients physically located in Kentucky at the time of the visit.
